Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (also known simply as Peter Rabbit 2 in other territories) is a 2021 3D live-action/computer-animated adventure comedy film.
It’s a case of good news/bad news for exhibition in that it puts a popular family franchise film into the normally busy Independence Day holiday frame — the Fourth of July falls on a Sunday this year — but takes an event film away from the May calendar just as more theaters are reopening after long Covid shutdowns.

After facing numerous delays from its original February 2020 release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was released theatrically by Sony Pictures Releasing under its Columbia Pictures label, in Australia on March 25, 2021, before a release in the United Kingdom on May 17, 2021, and in the United States on June 18, 2021.

A combo of animation and live-action, this kids’ flick also combines elements of the original Peter Rabbit books with a new character called “Bea,” a matronly woman who looks out for Peter and his siblings (and who was based on Potter herself). There’s also a new storyline about the McGregor property, which finds Peter & Co. working surprisingly hard to save it.
