Born on 5 January, 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark, the life story of Deepika Padukone is a roller coaster ride. As a teenager she was a badminton player which she left to make her career in the fashion industry and after that, there was no looking back. In 2020, her first production project is ‘Chhapaak’, directed by Megha Gulzar. In this movie, she played the real-life character of an acid attack survivor (based on Laxmi Agarwal). She considers this role to be the most challenging project of her career, both physically and emotionally. Her next production venture will be’83, which is a sports film based on India’s victory in the 1993 Cricket World Cup. Ranveer Singh is cast opposite to her where he plays the role of Kapil Dev and she has taken the role of his wife, Romi. She will also produce the movie based on Mahabharata’s character Draupadi, alongside cast with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Pandey. Apart from acting, Deepika has actively spoken about mental and physical health. She has been involved and written columns for man magazines regarding health and fitness. She has supported various charitable organizations and performed stage shows. In 2009, she was given an opportunity by the Hindustan Times to write a weekly column for their lifestyle section, she used this medium to interact with her fans and spilled some beans about her personal and professional life. Later that year she even participated in the World 10K Bangalore marathon; it raised a fund of 13.1 million to support around 81 NGOs. In 2010, as a part of NDTVs Greenathon Campaign, she adopted a Maharashtrian village, Ambegaon, in order to provide the village with regular electricity supply.
In 2014, she and her co-stars from the movie Happy New Year did a concert tour, “SLAM! The Tour”, across North America. She was involved with the Olympic Gold Quest team along with her father, Prakash Padukone, a well- known badminton player and Geet Sethi to support Indian athletes at the Olympic Games.
In 2015, she collaborated with Myntra to launch her own clothing line “All About You”. In 2019, she was appointed the chairperson of the Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image. In 2015, Deepika spoke about the darkest phase of her life and being able to overcome Depression. In October she formed “The Live Love Laugh Foundation” to create awareness about depression and anxiety.
She launched many campaigns to support the cause to name a few, More Than Just Sad to assist the physicians in their treatment for patients suffering from depression and anxiety.
